Now get real-time updates on power outages, lodge complaints through app

BYPankaj Mishra

Union power minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday launched the Urja Mitra mobile app that allows consumers across India to exchange real-time information with electricity distribution companies (discoms) on power supply.
“Urja Mitra provides a central platform in the form of web portal as well as mobile app for state power distribution utilities to disseminate information on outages to urban and rural consumers through SMSes, emails or push notifications,” he said.
Through this app, consumers can view outages across the country, as well as lodge complaints on outages in their area.
“Consumers will get prior intimation on expected duration and cause of scheduled outages,” the minister said.
Besides the app, Goyal also launched the Rural Feeder Monitoring Scheme to track quality of power supplied in rural areas.
The power ministry earlier launched a related application — Urban Jyoti Abhiyaan (Urja) — to monitor service delivery to consumers in towns across the country.
According to data from the Urja app, Kerala, Maharashtra and Rajasthan top the list of states supplying uninterrupted power, with Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Assam trailing in this regard.
